About 1 year ago, one of the Polish internet portals devoted its attention to the Irish - Polish relations and relationships. Still the main problem of Polish community is the fact of closing itself in kind of national ghetto, and the lack of knowledge of English practically makes it impossible for many Poles to communicate with Irish. Also the attitude of many of my compatriots to Ireland and Irish, who are not interested in Ireland at all, who are actually and mentally still live in Poland, and who are only working in Ireland, regarding Ireland only as a place of work (since at home they are in Poland), doesn’t help neither. From the other side, there is still some barrier built by Irish, I mean, despite my attempts to socialise with them, I have not so many Irish friends. The article published on Polish internet portal mentioned also that Irish girls don’t want to go out with Polish boys. For Irish girls it was kind of shame or come down with a boy from a country in far East (even maybe in Asia 
). In fact, I know one Irish girl who has Polish boyfriend, and she couple of times complained that other Irish girls sometimes laughed at her emigrant boyfriend.
Meanwhile, according to the latest Sunday Independent, Irish girls will have to get used to Polish lads, at least due to the fact, that recently Irish boys have been choosing foreigner girls to go out. There is no doubt, that Polish community is so big, and Polish girls are usually regarded as beautiful, that Irish boys quite often choose Polish girls and quite often I have been listening to Irish, and other foreigner people, complaining that every Polish girl friend has a boyfriend already 
I found Irish girls pretty, and maybe one day they realise that Poles are not wild troglodytes without manners (except exact amount, that can be found in every nation).

And I suspect given the twins reported attitude over here, there are quite a few interested Polish boys over here.

I am American. My Polish family came to this country around the turn of the twentieth century. They’re kids grew up in the Polish part of the city. Went to Polish school and attended mass at the Polish National Church.
While MY Babcia married an American of English descent, every one of her sisters, my Polish Great-Aunts, married Irish boys instead of Polish boys.
I’m polish and I found Irish girls the most beautiful in the world. I was traveling a lot, mostly Europe and America and I must say; Irish girls are just gorgeous! I often ask my self how it’s happening ? I red in some historical book that ages ago England was attacked by Spanish fleet, where Spain lost, so they have to run back and Ireland was in the way so they stuck there. I presume that’s how the beauty began, mix of Celtic and Latino nation. The Irish nation it’s not huge and sometimes it’s really hard to find that special one (smart & looking good) - real princess, but when you try hard, than you will meet the most precious and priceless person in the world. I really would like to find love of my life in Irish girl, but they really seem to be picky about polish lads even when they’re ugly like ducks. I don’t think it’s about race or something. The bigger amount of polish guys coming here are just for work, especially on construction sites, so they come from certain part of polish community. They can’t speak english much and they all look the same…..dull
BUT! still there is a little percent of well educated lads from Poland who even earn more than some Irish, and they are looking for honest relationship and even think to settle down on Island. These are the tidbits for Irish Girls
Peter. I haven’t written anything bad about Irish girls. It is just the Irish lads find Polish girls very attractive for they are look much different (different kind of beauty).
As for Polish workers, I dare say you are wrong. Majority of the Poles in Ireland are relatively young people, and most of them are not professional builders even if they are working on construction sites. I dare say more of us work in different sector. Maybe your point of view is limited to your vicinity, but I have been travelling around Ireland. I also claim that they are not dull in the majority however the lack of knowledge of English language is a quite important barrier. The number of primitive Polish trouble makers is also a big case. Anyhow… they are creating kind of image of Polish emigrant and probably that image makes Irish girls not willing to open for Polish boys - call it as you want.
I also don’t agree with your suggestions, that only well educated people are looking for honest relationship and only they are thinking about settle down. I know many of Poles who are honest and settled down already (but they are not going out with Irish girls) without higher education. Your assumption is a bit racist, don’t you think?

As part of the generation of Irish who emmigrated to work in Europe during the 1980s I feel I have far more in common this the Polish and other hard-working emmigrants rather than the self-inflated, over-confident and often bigotted Irish in their 20s and 30s who have never done a days work in their lives and have had fortune drop in their laps out of the sky.
Given their attitude fortune will likely just as quickly evaporate as there is no graft to back it up … just cheap credit … Celtic tiger my arse.

Usually Spanish emmigrants (or Erasmus) make their own group or national ghetto as you called, when we go abroad is more or less the same. I’m thinking of going to Ireland to work, I’ve been there studiying English before and I like the country, but I’ve been reading many bad things about Irish people and their tolerance when it comes to foreigners (especially the latin group, Italians, Portuguese and Spanish), there is also a «latin hunt day»…
I think the best cure for all the fobias is to travel, I’ve been in many countries around Europe and I like most of them and the people from them. I was quite impressed by Polish and Slovak people, they are so warm.
I never liked Polish girls when I was Erasmus in Paris… most of them were strange, they even didn’t seem europeans with their attitude. Just archaic. Some of them were pretty but I never relied on them. Sometimes it was difficult to be fun with them. Something between shyness and mental closure…

Some of them might be very attractive some patheticly ugly but generally they’re not enthusiastic with wrong attitudes. The reason why they go with other foreigners are: money, car and his house in overseas country.

The reason Irish women don’t like Polish men is because they’re snobs and they see Polish guys as being of a ‘lower class’. If it’s any consolation, Irish men like Polish women not just because they’re attractive but also because they’re not as arrogant, aggressive and bigoted as Irish women. They’re not so much hard work basically. Despite some ‘mental closure’ as you put it, they’re warmer and less bad natured, greedy and selfishly desperate.

Great website - congratulations - i married an irishman and came here with him 15 years ago - i have seen ireland change a lot and agree with the irish poster that there is an arrogant and inward looking group who think the boom was the result of their own personal attributes. But there is still a lot I love about this place and I think we are all part of it and what it is becoming. The change from being a country with a hundred years of emigration and no strange faces to a place with thousands of new people has been amazing. I think we can keep our own cultures and languages and MIX as well.

Thats not true about Irish girls not liking Polish boys. I think Polish men are real gentlemen and just like Irish men, some can be complete idiots. However although I am young, I am well travelled and I can honestly say that in my opinion Polish men ( even the uneducated ones, the non english speaking and the hooligans) seem to have more respect for women than alot of men from other countries (one of them being Ireland) Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of gentlemen in Ireland…its just a fact that the majority of them are Polish. This is merely just my opinion :)When it comes to small gestures such as opening the door for a girl to helping her with her bags, it always seems to be my Polish male friends (or strangers) who will offer first and I just wonder why??

I think that plenty of Irish girls think Polish guys are really polite and very good-looking ! We don’t all judge them by their jobs in Ireland - we know that they are happy to work in any job, just like Irish people who emigrated to England and the U.S. in the ’80’s and ’90’s. Our only problems are - either Polish guys are here with their (beautiful) Polish girlfriends or else they have a wife and family in Poland that they are not telling us about ! Also, we keep reading that they think Polish girls are so much prettier than Irish girls!!
