Irish prisoners overseas

Today’s Irish Independent on page 9 devotes its attention to the issue of Irish prisoners being jailed abroad. It is quite interesting to find out that in so remote countries Irish people see the world through the bars. In the article there was no any information about the causes of imprisonment, only the numbers were shown. According to the Department of Foreign affairs there are 708 Irish prisoners in UK, 28 in USA, 14 in Spain, 8 in Germany, 6 in France, 5 in Portugal, 3 in Australia, 2 in Panama, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil, and 1 each in Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, Canada, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Thailand, Japan, Belgium, Denmark and Latvia.

I wonder how many of my Polish compatriots is being jailed in Ireland, or all over the world.
