Polish Policemen in PSNI

Couple of days ago Irish Independent devoted its attention to a massive number (about 1000) of applications to the Police Service of Northern Ireland by young Poles. It is well welcomed by PSNI and due to the fact that almost all Polish emigrants are catholics it would fit perfectly a PSNI 50 – 50 recruitment policy. Employ 1000 Polish officers would raise an overall percentage of Catholics in the service from 21 percent at present.

It is a good opportunity for many of Polish emigrants, and former policemen to be still in the service and to earn at least 4 times more than in Poland. The need to employ Poles to the police service is quite obvious due to growing number of our community in Northern Ireland (which is now estimated to be about 30 thousands). The same need exist in the Republic, but I am a little bit afraid about that idea in the Northern Ireland.

Due to the agreement there must be an equal number of protestants and catholics in the PSNI, but it is far to be done at present. There is many reasons of that, i.e. there is a problem with MI5 involvement in PSNI and I guess there can be still lack of confidence to the police among the catholic communities and their experiences with RUC. For the British and Northern Ireland authorities employment of huge number of Poles can be a solution. They can say that everything goes fine, due to the growing number of catholics in the service. But Poles are a foreign element, not linked to the problems, memories and sensitives of the local catholic communities. In my opinion they can’t be a good representatives of the Irish catholics in the North and they probably won’t be a regarded by them as let me say “our people”.

Apart of a real need to recruit Poles to PSNI, there is a danger of political involvement, and in my opinion Poles won’t be a good replacement for the Irish catholics in the service. I hope that the number of Poles employed will be appropriate to the size and needs of Polish community’ and won’t be treated by the NI authorities as part of the 50 – 50 recruitment policy.

Do you really think that your community can walk in here and after 2 years join up with a british force to oversee Irish people in Ireland? Would you accept Irish people becoming part of a Russian police force in Poland to oversee the Polish? That is what you are doing.

Stay out of things which don’t concern you, at least until there is a political resolution on this island and until your community have become citizens of our country.

Mick… Read my text carefully again and again. I expressed the same point of view as yours. It seems you didn’t understand. I don’t want Polish officers being involved in PSNI because of its unclear role in the both communities, and because it is probably still regarded by many Irish as a British forces, RUC successor. I suspect British authorities cheat, trying to employ Poles (even 100% catholics) as a part of 50 - 50 policy.

To acquire real Police - representatives of both communities, that forces should be cut off from all politics, MI5 etc. and should employ 50 pc Irish catholics insted of Polish foreigners.

Who are you to call on all poles not to join the Police Service of Northern Ireland??

You’ve been here what 2 days… and somehow you have managed to get yourself brainwashed by the Sinn Fein propaganda bandwagon.

Take a step back, i suggest you read an awful lot of history books, i think you will find NORTHERN Irish history is a tale of two halves - certain sections of catholic and protestants are both to blame.

And as for these neo-nazi’s… well i know of catholics (yes catholics can you belive it!) that are active c18 followers - and guess what regardless of their religion they are PURE SCUM.

Ryan… It seems you didn’t read my text carefully :) So let me point out the nonesens of your allegations.
Who are you to call on all poles not to join the Police Service of Northern Ireland??
Could you show me where in my text I am calling all Poles no to join PSNI?
I can’t see something like that, moreover… I wrote this: I hope that the number of Poles employed will be appropriate to the size and needs of Polish community’ and won’t be treated by the NI authorities as part of the 50 – 50 recruitment policy.

So as you can see.. I am against involving Poles in the conflict and political games related to that. I am against a massive employment of POles to NSPI because they are don’t know much about history of NI and the conflict. And, as it happened already, they can be treated as a mercenaries by radical nationalist/republicans.

You are trying to suggest that I am biased on Republican favour. I am not. I am an emigrant not involved in that conflict. In my opinion it is not our - Polish - problem, and we shouldn’t be involved. Is there something against protestants or loyalists?

But I am quite familiar with history of Ireland, and the present day.

Scum is everywhere. We have Polish skinheads (catholics) worship Hitler, which is completely stupid, but so what?
It doesn’t change my opinion about the case of PSNI
